The National Telecommunications Council (CONATEL) recently called the mobile telephone company DIGICEL to order regarding the price adjustments of its services. Indeed, CONATEL requires DIGICEL, as well as all operators in the sector, to strictly comply with the circular of May 31, 2022.
In article 1 of this circular, the objective of which is to guarantee tariff transparency and protect consumers against unforeseen or unjustified increases, it requires that any creation or modification of tariffs for telecommunications services must be subject to non- objection from CONATEL at least eight clear days before its application.
CONATEL also warned that failure to comply with this information obligation will result in the penalties provided for. A measure which is intended to be a dissuasive measure for operators tempted to circumvent the rules. This CONATEL initiative aims to strengthen regulation of the telecommunications sector and ensure better protection of users’ rights.
