P-to-P, June 13, 2024 [AlterPresse] — Prime Minister Garry Conille promises to make public security “an absolute priority for his transitional government”, in a message on the occasion of the 29th anniversary (June 12, 1995 – June 12, 2024) of the National Police. Haiti (Pnh), which the online agency AlterPresse became aware of.

It is committed to strengthening the capacities of the Pnh, improving the working conditions of police officers, and providing the police with the tools necessary to accomplish their mission with efficiency and professionalism.

“We understand that without security, no lasting progress can be made. This is why we are working in close collaboration with our international partners to define the modalities of effective support, while respecting our sovereignty and our national priorities,” Conille tries to reassure.

During his installation, on Wednesday June 12, 2024, Garry Conille observed a minute of silence in honor of the three national police officers of the Temporary Anti-Gang Unit (Utag), Emelin Fermetus, Peterson Clovis and Wilkens Jean Junior Piton, cowardly murdered, on Sunday June 9, 2024, by the coalition of armed gangs, called Live togetherand of all the victims of terror and other violence by armed gangs.

The assassination of these three police officers brings to 21 the number of police officers killed by armed bandits since the start of 2024.

Accompanied by members of the High Command, the ad interim director general of the Haitian National Police (Pnh), Frantz Elbé, met, on Tuesday June 11, 2024, members of the family of the Utag police officers, murdered on June 9 June 2024

The Pnh gave the guarantee that administrative support will be granted to them during this meeting, which was attended by the spouses of the police victims, their parents and certain relatives.

Arrangements taken have enabled the Pnh to engage in a process of adaptation and transformation to better respond to threats and challenges linked to national security, said Frantz Elbé, in a message, Wednesday June 12, 2024, date marking the 29th anniversary of the creation of the Pnh.

Elbé calls on the population to continue to collaborate with the police to have a more robust force. [emb rc apr 13/06/2024 14:45]
