Saint-Marc (Haiti), May 22, 2024 [AlterPresse] — The Ministry of National Education and Vocational Training (Menfp) has decided to suspend the management license of Clément Geffrard Lanier, administrative director of the “Institution Georges Sylvain” to Fresinoin the town of Saint-Marc (Artibonite department), after the serious physical violence he inflicted, on Monday, May 20, 2024, on a student at this school, according to a press release of which the agency was informed online AlterPresse.

The management license of Félix Estimé, principal director of the “Institution Georges Sylvain”, was also suspended.

This measure was taken by the Menfp after the report, received from the Departmental Directorate of Education of Artibonite, which confirms the serious acts of physical violence perpetrated against this student within the school grounds.

“The behavior of this director does not respect any principle in school matters, nor what is said about the legal provisions concerning the ban on corporal punishment in schools,” denounces the Menfp.

Recalling how “school is a space where students must learn to live with respect for each other and with dignity”, the Menfp reaffirms its determination to fight against all forms of acts of violence within schools. educational institutions.

The Ministry of National Education declares that it is also taking other measures to give this child the necessary psychological framework and avoid any damage in his academic work, as part of the efforts made to guarantee school well-being every day.

“Training sessions will also continue to be organized to help school principals better understand their responsibilities, in terms of school climate and student well-being, as provided for in international conventions and the country’s law on protection of the rights of the child, and other ministry documents, which define the rules of good conduct that all school staff must respect at all times,” he announces.

The Menfp urges the population, particularly parents, to remain vigilant, in order to curb acts of violence inside schools.
