High tensions reigned in several neighborhoods in the municipalities of Tabarre and Croix-des-Bouquets this Tuesday, May 21. Armed bandits set fire to the police sub-station located in the Cesselesse area in the middle of the day. This act caused widespread panic, forcing schools to dismiss students, businesses to close early, and interrupting public transportation for the rest of the day.
In Tabarre, messages circulated demanding help from the Haitian National Police (PNH) following scenes of looting at the Kay M. Chacha company. In the areas of Croix-des-Mission and Santo, the presence of armed individuals and attempts to block public roads have been reported. At the beginning of the afternoon, shooting was reported in Marassa, in the commune of Croix-des-Bouquets.
These attacks come as the deployment of the Multinational Security Support Mission (MMAS) is imminent, with the recent arrival of a Kenyan delegation to prepare for the arrival of 200 police officers.
Note that during the night from Friday to Saturday, bandits from the criminal group “400 Mawozo” undertook to demolish the Croix-des-Bouquets police station. The PNH reacted by dispatching armored vehicles to try to deter the bandits, leading to clashes between Saturday and Sunday.
