Secretary-General appoints Karl Frédérick Paul, originally from Haiti, as United Nations Resident Coordinator in Gambia

United Nations Secretary-General António Guterres has appointed Karl Frédérick Paul, a native of Haiti, as United Nations Resident Coordinator in The Gambia, with the approval of the host government, effective June 16.

Mr. Paul has over 20 years of experience in development and humanitarian work, having held leadership positions in non-governmental organizations in Africa and Latin America. Before joining the UN, he was the Resident Representative of Plan International in Burkina Faso and Benin. He also served as Country Director of CARE in Haiti. Before that, he played a central role in aligning international NGO strategies with the Sustainable Development Goals through programmatic and humanitarian preparedness and response work. His experience includes missions to Tunisia, Democratic Republic of Congo, Burundi and Ivory Coast.

Mr. Paul holds a bachelor’s degree in finance from Quisqueya University in Port-au-Prince, Haiti, and two master’s degrees in business administration and strategic management from Belgrano University in Buenos Aires, Argentina .
