Members of the Presidential Transitional Council unveiled this Monday, May 20, 2024, initiatives aimed at cleaning up Port-au-Prince and its surroundings.

In a press release distributed via social networks this Monday, May 20, 2024, the Presidential Council notified that “The issue of garbage in the streets throughout the capital and in the metropolitan area of ​​Port-au-Prince was at the heart of an important See you at the Welcome Villa on Monday May 20, 2024.”

“The architect Leslie VOLTAIRE, on behalf of the CPT, addressed a delegation of mayors from the metropolitan area accompanied by the DG of the National Solid Waste Management Service,” the press release specifies.

To ensure the safety of MTPTC operators, SNGRS and local authorities, PNH and FAD’H agents will be mobilized.

According to CPT members, this sanitation project aims to bring at least five tangible benefits to the population. It is, above all, “protecting the health of residents of the capital against the proliferation of microbes and rodents carrying all kinds of diseases due to the accumulation of waste in public spaces”.

In addition, the sanitation project seeks to minimize risks and prevent disasters that could be caused by the imminent arrival of the next hurricane season, in less than a month.

The members of the CPT also wish to “promote the cleaning and beautification of the streets of the capital, as well as the creation of two thousand five hundred direct jobs and around ten thousand indirect jobs.”

Finally, the sanitation project aims to create a “political climate favorable to the installation of the new government, the selection of the Prime Minister of which is currently underway,” explains the CPT.

It should be noted that after almost a month since they took office on April 25, the members of the CPT have still not succeeded in choosing their Prime Minister or forming their government.
