Port-au-Prince, May 23, 2024 – The premises housing the Faculty of Law and Economic Sciences of Port-au-Prince fell prey to an act of vandalism perpetrated by gangs in the middle of the week, adding another institution public of great importance to the list of targets to be destroyed by these criminal groups in Haiti, “to activate the occupation of the national territory”.

According to a Faculty official, interviewed by Rezo Nòdwès, the criminals took away solar panels and furniture from the Faculty.

This attack is part of a series of similar incidents affecting the State University of Haiti, including the École Normale Supérieure and the Faculty of Medicine and Pharmacy, all of which are under constant threat from gangs, a- he added

Police patrols are visible in the vicinity of the National Palace, but their presence does not seem to deter criminals. These acts occur while the Presidential Transitional Council renewed the curfew and the state of emergency established by the de facto Prime Minister, Patrick Michel Boisvert, without evaluating their effectiveness.

Despite these measures, Internet users noted, the gangs continue to operate with impunity. Even more worrying, several police stations have been attacked and dismantled by gangs. The police, for their part, have remained silent on these incidents, content to publish images of the capture of the Grécier police station, while the local population remains away from the area.
