The Inter-American Development Bank grants an additional $20 million to support educational reform in Haiti.

The Ministry of National Education and Vocational Training (MENFP) announced via a note that the Inter-American Development Bank (IDB) approved, on May 22, 2024, an additional donation of 20 million US dollars to support the reform ongoing education, as part of the Ten-Year Education and Training Plan (PDEF).

This financing according to the note will be used for the “Educational Governance Support Project” (PAGE), extending the initiatives previously supported by the IDB during the first two phases of the Ten-year Education and Training Plan Support Project. , launched in 2022 and 2024 respectively.

The investment will make it possible to modernize the Education Information and Management System (EMIS) in Haiti in order to facilitate the availability of comparative data on the educational achievements of students. The MENFP Permanent Evaluation Center (CPEV), established in June 2022, will coordinate Haiti’s participation in a regional or international learning evaluation.

In addition, this funding will support the implementation of the 2024-2054 Curricular Orientation Framework, a significant update of the Bernard Reform. The PAGE project will finance new school programs, including digital, teacher training, strengthening inspection programs, as well as the development and acquisition of educational materials and books in Haitian Creole.

The MENFP welcomed this new contribution from the IDB, which will make it possible to continue transforming the Haitian education system despite current challenges. Last April, the MENFP also benefited from funding of 44 million dollars (BID: 15 million, GPE: 19 million, EAA: 10 million) to support the education sector in Haiti.
