The World Food Program (WFP) warns that its food stocks could be exhausted by the end of April.

The escalation of violence by armed gangs in Haiti affects different sectors of national life to the point of paralyzing several fields of activity on the national territory, particularly in the metropolitan region of Port-au-Prince. Another concern is the World Food Program (WFP), which has indicated that its food stocks could be exhausted by the end of April due to the closure of the country’s main airport and port. The WFP reserve is able to feed only 175,000 people during this month.

“WFP is doing everything possible to reach the most vulnerable people, but at the current rate, we will run out of food stocks by the end of April. The capital’s port must reopen immediately to transport new supplies. We also need unhindered access to the transportation of food across the country to ensure the continuity of our programs,” said Jean-Martin Bauer, director of the PAM in Haiti.

This shortage of stock may appear at a time when the country is facing gang violence, political instability, hunger which affects a large part of the population who are not able to properly take care of their families. This situation could cause a risk of acute malnutrition in 125,000 children in the country.

However, the UN organization recalls that since the outbreak of the scenes of violence it has provided food to more than “500,000 people across the country, 560,000 hot meals have been distributed to more than 80,000 people in Port-au-Prince and elsewhere, 290,000 children received hot meals in schools.

”For more than a month, all sectors of activity in the country have been affected by scenes of violence. The premises of schools and universities have suffered gang attacks, police stations have been attacked and burned. Without forgetting that the general hospital, the largest public hospital in the country, has been closed since March 30 while the La Paix University Hospital, another public hospital located in the town of Delmas, is overwhelmed.
