World Blood Donor Day: Konbit San Pou San mobilizes the population for a blood drive in BANJ

On this World Blood Donor Day, celebrated each year on June 14 in tribute to Karl Landsteiner, the Konbit San Pou San (KSPS) association calls on the Haitian population to mobilize for a noble and vital cause: blood donation. This event, which will be held on Saturday June 15 from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m., will take place at the BANJ premises, located in Delmas 66.

Established by the World Health Organization (WHO), World Blood Donor Day aims to raise public awareness of the importance of donating blood and blood products for the health of all. June 14 coincides with the birthday of Karl Landsteiner, the Austrian scientist awarded the Nobel Prize for his discovery of ABO blood groups, a major breakthrough that revolutionized transfusion medicine.

The importance of blood donation was first highlighted by Arnault Tzanck (1886-1954), a French physician who, during World War I, realized the crucial need for blood transfusions to save lives on the battlefield. battlefield. In 1928, Tzanck founded the first Blood Transfusion Center at Saint-Antoine Hospital in Paris, and in 1949 he established the National Blood Transfusion Center, establishing the foundations of modern transfusion medicine.

In Haiti, the Konbit San Pou San (KSPS) association plays an essential role in promoting blood donation. Aware of the challenges facing the Haitian health system, including the chronic lack of blood for transfusions, KSPS works tirelessly to raise awareness and encourage voluntary donations.

The blood drive event organized by KSPS in SPA is an opportunity for every citizen to make a gesture of love and solidarity. By donating a few minutes of their time and a small amount of their blood, participants can make a significant difference in the lives of those who desperately need it. Whether for patients with severe anemia, accident victims, or people undergoing surgical procedures, every blood donation is a lifeline.

Together, let’s make this World Blood Donor Day a resounding success and make our contribution to saving lives in Haiti.
