The Haitian delegation to the 2024 Olympic Games in Paris will once again return empty-handed. No medals were won, despite the commendable efforts of our athletes who hoped to revive the pride of Haitians.
Unlike Haiti, neighboring nations such as Saint Lucia, Dominica, Jamaica and the Dominican Republic have been able to hold their own, distinguishing themselves with remarkable performances.
Only seven Haitian athletes were able to participate in these Games, and this, without much support from the State. Among them, Alexandre Grand’Pierre (Swimming), Lynnzee Brown (Artistic Gymnastics), Philippe Abel Metellus (Judo), Cedrick Belony (Boxing), Mayah Chouloute (Swimming), Christopher Borzor (Athletics, 100m) and Emelia Andrea Chatfield (Athletics, 100m hurdles) represented the bicolor in the Olympic village. Unfortunately, all were eliminated along the way, unable to obtain significant results.
These valiant representatives of the nation have given their all on the field, but how can they perform miracles when the leaders persist in not taking measures to develop the country’s sporting talents? It is time for the authorities to review their approach and seriously invest in sports, if Haiti is ever to hope to rise to the top of international competitions.
