The symptoms that should prompt you to seek treatment for colon cancer, the third most common cancer in men.

American gastroenterologist Joseph Salhab, in a video published on his TikTok account @thestomachdoctor, presented the associated signs of colon cancer or rectal cancer. According to the specialist, these symptoms, including sudden diarrhea that does not go away or blood in the stools, should push people to consult a doctor.

Colon cancer is the third most common cancer in men after prostate and lung cancer, while it is the second most common cancer in women after breast cancer. According to medicine, colon cancer is a disease of the cells that line the inner lining of the colon. In France, more than 47,000 people are affected by this disease, indicated the site Femme Actuelle.

According to American gastroenterologist Joseph Salhab, more and more people in their 20s and 30s are now suffering from colon cancer. To attract everyone’s attention, the specialist presented some suggestive symptoms of the disease which should encourage people to seek advice.

The first sign involves a persistent change in bowel habits. For the gastroenterologist, sudden diarrhea that does not go away or recent-onset constipation that gets worse are intestinal disorders characteristic of colon cancer to which particular attention must be paid. He adds to explain that a change in the consistency of stools as well as their shape can also be indicative of colon cancer.

However, so as not to panic people too much, Joseph Salhab clarified that travel or certain foods can also cause diarrhea and constipation, which can be simple “occasional inconveniences”.

The presence of blood in the stools according to the specialist is not normal. He invites people to always look at the toilet paper and the bowl after relieving themselves.
Furthermore, Joseph Salhab also indicated that blood in the stools can also be caused by something benign like hemorrhoids or an anal fissure and that there are treatments for this.

However, there are other signs that should prompt people to consult a doctor: abdominal or rectal pain, nausea and vomiting, an urgent need to have a bowel movement, a fever that persists, unexplained weight loss and great fatigue.

In the early stages of the disease, colorectal cancer remains asymptomatic. Furthermore, when the tumor develops and evolves, the first symptoms appear. Symptoms to which you must pay attention, because the earlier a cancer is detected, the better it is treated and the better the chances of survival, advised the site Femme Actuelle.

Note that World Cancer Day is celebrated every February 4. It is an international day dedicated to the prevention, detection, fight against stigma and treatment of cancer.
