Demonstrators criticize the behavior deemed inhumane by the police during anti-government mobilizations.

This Monday, February 5, 2024, activists and political activists took to the tarmac to demand the departure of the doctor Ariel Henry of the Prime Minister’s Office. At the initiative of several political structures, Port-au-Prince was one of the centers of anti-government mobilization. Around 10 a.m., burning tires were noticed on the road to Delmas, Canapé-Vert, among others, which caused the paralysis of commercial activities.

Shortly after, demonstrators were noticed on the roadway. In their speech, they demanded the unconditional departure of Doctor Ariel Henry and his government team no later than February 7. “We will be out in the streets until Ariel Henry resigns from office” declares the Secretary General of the Pitit Desalin party, Moïse Jean-Charles, who once again encourages citizens to demonstrate with violence.

Arriving at Delmas 60, a patrol from the Intervention Corps for Maintenance of Order (CIMO) dispersed the crowd by making excessive use of tear gas, a behavior which angered demonstrators who threw stones in all directions . Faced with this situation, the police had to leave the area.

It must also be said that at the initiative of the political party Engagés pour le Développement (EDE), a sit-in was organized in front of the premises of the Prime Minister’s Office in Musseau. In response, the police made excessive use of tear gas to disperse the crowd, which was not in large numbers. In reaction, Doctor Claude Joseph strongly criticized the behavior deemed inhumane by the police.
