Aged 76, the most remarkable producer and exporter of Caribbean essential oil (vetiver), agronomist Pierre Léger, originally from Les Cayes, died in France this Thursday March 1, 2024 following illness.
Very involved in the political and social life of his region, the Great South, the industrialist Pierre Léger left his mark, indelibly in several initiatives aimed at the development of the southern region, such as for example his support for the hospital General of Les Cayes, his contribution to the electrification of several cities in the South department and especially his merciless fight since 1996 for the opening of the Port Saint Louis du Sud, which the Haitian state refuses to make operational.
Like a clap of thunder, the news of the death of the industrialist, businessman the agronomist Pierre Léger plunges the region of the Great South, the city of Les Cayes in particular, into deep consternation.
