The Haitian National Police makes public the results of its operations and interventions, where 17 bandits were fatally injured, 17 firearms were seized and a vehicle was confiscated, between February 29 and March 26, 2024.
According to a press release from the police institution, 17 bandits were fatally injured, including gang leaders Ernst Julmé, alias “Ti Grèg” and Makandal, seventeen (17) firearms seized: 12 caliber rifles, AK47, 9mm and M4 pistol and one (1) vehicle confiscated, during operations and interventions carried out by the PNH from February 29 to March 26, 2024.
These operations and interventions were carried out following attacks perpetrated on public and private institutions by heavily armed individuals wanting, at all costs, to establish a climate of terror in the metropolitan region of Port-au-Prince, indicated the PNH in its press release published Tuesday.
Furthermore, formal instructions were given by the Acting Director General of the PNH, Frantz Elbé, to the heads of specialized police units in order to intensify operations to allow citizens to go about their business with complete peace of mind. and continue to secure and protect the lives and property of the population.
The police institution says it reiterates its commitment to continuing the fight against armed gangs, while requesting, once again, the frank collaboration of members of the civilian population.
This assessment by the national police comes in a context where insecurity continues to grow in the metropolitan region of Port-au-Prince, forcing members of the population to flee their neighborhoods and embassies to evacuate their citizens to the Dominican Republic. .
According to data from UN authorities, 15,000 people have been forced to leave their homes in the metropolitan region of Port-au-Prince since February 29, due to the rise in gang violence.
