The Spanish Embassy in Haiti announced the resumption of its services, Tuesday, May 7, 2024, in a publication on its social networks.

All its consular services, including visa service, are resuming normally, the embassy said in its publication.

It should be remembered that on April 11, the Spanish Embassy in Haiti announced that its document legalization, civil status and notarial services were operating by appointment and on a restricted basis.

Note that at the end of February, Spain appointed a new ambassador to Haiti in the person of the diplomat Marco A. Peñín Toledano who replaced Sergio Cuesta Francisco in this position.

A few days later, at the beginning of April, the ambassador presented his credentials to the resigning Minister of Foreign Affairs in Haiti, Jean Victor Généus.

On the occasion, the diplomat indicated that “Spain fully supports the democratic process in Haiti.”

In fact, Spain, through its Minister of Foreign Affairs, had promised to support the Multinational Security Support Mission in Haiti in September 2023. The outgoing ambassador of the European country had, however, maintained that the success of the said mission depends on the commitment of the Haitian people “the sole protagonist and sole decision-maker of their future”.
