Once again carried by its two stars Vinicius and Jude Bellingham, while awaiting the possible arrival of the third, Kylian Mbappé, Real Madrid perfectly celebrated its 36th Spanish championship title on Tuesday with an easy victory against Alavés (5-0) at the Santiago Bernabéu.
Without pity for the Basque team, the Brazilian striker scored a double (27th, 70th), while Bellingham signed his 19th achievement of the season to open the scoring with a little success (10th) and served perfectly. Uruguayan Federico Valverde on the 3-0 goal (45th+1).
Entering the game at the end of the match, Turkish hopeful Arda Guler, 19, scored his fourth goal in only eleven appearances in the Merengue jersey (81st).
Real, already looking towards its Champions League final on June 1 against Dortmund at Wembley, now has 93 points at the top of La Liga, 17 more than its great rival FC Barcelona and 16 than its pursuer Girona.
Alavés, promoted in 2023 and guaranteed to remain, remains stuck in the second part of the table in eleventh place.
Courteous decisive
This one-sided meeting, contested with an eleven which should closely resemble the one which will be fielded in the C1 final, also allowed the Belgian goalkeeper Thibaut Courtois and the Brazilian defender Eder Militao, to return at the end of the season after almost nine month of absence, to play precious minutes before this last deadline.
The 31-year-old goalkeeper, who had surgery on both knees after a rupture of the cruciate ligament and then the meniscus, was decisive with no less than ten saves, including two in quick succession at the very start of the match and a nice release on a strike from Ianis Hagi , son of Romanian legend Gheorge Hagi.
Enough to further reinforce the puzzle of Carlo Ancelotti, who assured that he has not yet chosen who will start in Madrid’s goals at Wembley, between Lunin, unexpected hero of Real’s European journey, and Courtois “the best goalkeeper in the world when he is at his level.
