A synthesis of 45 meta-analyses carried out in recent years shows that a certain type of diet increases the risk of developing more than thirty-two diseases. We will explain everything to you.

Cancer and cardiovascular diseases: the risks of a poor diet

Prostate cancer, cardiovascular diseases, colorectal cancer, obesity, type 2 diabetes… High consumption ofultra-processed foods is associated with an increased risk of develop 32 diseases.

At least these are the results of a study published in February in the British Medical Journal. To arrive at this conclusion, the researchers synthesized more than 45 meta-analyses dating back less than four years and covering 10 million participants.

Overall, high consumption of ultra-processed products is associated with a 21% higher risk of death, whatever the cause.

Why are processed foods bad for your health?

Processed foods like chipscereals, prepared meals or sodas are not recommended by nutritionists.

In fact, these are products which have undergone an industrial transformation process. Some contain a lot of preservatives and food additives. They are generally very high in sugar, fat and salt.

Unlike raw foods that you cook yourself, these products are low in fiber and vitamins. You then lose all the nutritional value of certain foods. All this is not without consequences for the body.

Researchers are calling for a UN framework convention, similar to that which exists for tobacco. According to them, this would allow reduce the consumption of these products worldwide.

Currently, it is the youngest people and men from rich and developed countries who are the most fans of these foods. To maintain good health, nothing beats homemade!
