On Friday May 31, 2024, several sports federations and associations organized a meeting to send an open letter to the members of the CPT and the new Prime Minister, Garry Conille. Their objective is to express their concerns regarding the selection of the next Minister of Youth, Sports and Civic Action.

Sports federations, aware of the current issues, have expressed their concern about the government’s past choices. In their letter, signed by various representatives of sporting disciplines, they emphasize that certain ministers have harmed the sports sector rather than advancing it. They criticize in particular the lack of knowledge and the absence of a link with the sector among some of the former ministers.

To avoid these errors, representatives of the federations ask Prime Minister Garry Conille to actively consult members of the sports sector before appointing the next minister. They highlight three essential points: local expertise, passion and commitment, as well as national reconciliation. According to them, local expertise is crucial for informed decisions, passion and commitment are necessary to energize civic action and youth, and involving the sports sector in the selection of the minister could strengthen national cohesion and confidence between the different stakeholders.
