Senior National Intelligence Service (NIS) official found dead at his Kilimani home

A senior National Intelligence Service (NIS) officer allegedly killed himself using his service weapon.

Tom Mboya, aged 54, went to his home where he lived with his nephew on Monday June 3.

He was not seen again afterwards.

How did the NIS director die in Kilimani?
On Tuesday June 4, the deceased’s nephew, Francis Oduor, tried to find out where he was, because he had not been spotted in his large house, even upstairs, where he was sleeping.

He then inquired with the domestic worker and the guard, who both denied having seen his uncle, before discovering his body lying inside the servants’ quarters.

Oduor informed his relatives, who in turn contacted the police.

When officers arrived at the scene, they found Mboya shooting himself with a pistol.

He reportedly struggled with depression.

“He shot himself with a pistol in the right side of the head, which came out on the left side…At the scene, the Glock 19 pistol s/no kg 589, was found with 1 spent cartridge and a magazine loaded with 3 bullets. In his room, another spare magazine was found, loaded with 13 bullets,” a police report seen by TUKO.co.ke reads in part.

A note was also found at the scene; the body was transported to Lee Funeral Home while detectives opened the inquest file.
