Anse-à-Pitres (Haiti), July 9, 2024 [AlterPresse] — Dominican national Hungría Díaz, father of a prosecutor María Díaz Corcino, was arrested Tuesday morning, July 9, 2024, by the justice system of the Dominican Republic, for his alleged involvement in the shooting murder, on Tuesday, July 2, 2024, of two Haitians on his farm in Pedernalesreveals the Dominican site fotuto.netconsulted by the online agency AlterPresse.

Victims Jean Duversaint, 65, and Maurice Delia, 49, died after being shot twice in the chest while collecting dry trees on Diaz’s farm to use in their stoves to process their food after Hurricane Beryl, according to witnesses.

Nelson Louis, nephew and adopted son of one of the victims, testified about the crime before the public prosecutor and also before agents of the Central Directorate of Criminal Investigations (Dicrim) of the Dominican National Police.

Louis assured that the author was the father of the representative of the public prosecutor.

On its X account, the Haitian Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Worship (Maec) declares that it deplores the death of three fellow citizens, a 23-year-old Haitian migrant, Saint Mira Millien, originally from Saut-d’Eau (central Plateau department), and two Haitian nationals Jean Duverssaint and Maurice Delia.

“Once again, Haitian citizens are victims of inhumane treatment in the border area and in neighboring territory,” condemns the MAEC, calling on the Dominican authorities to send the necessary resources to determine the circumstances of these deaths and identify those responsible.

The Haitian embassy in Santo Domingo has been notified of the case and will follow it up, the Haitian Ministry of Foreign Affairs is trying to reassure.

Arrested on Wednesday, July 3, 2024 in Duarte (Santo Domingo), the suffering Haitian migrant Saint Mira Millien died on the way, on Thursday, July 4, 2024, at the time of her deportation to Haiti.

The two other Haitian nationals were “coldly killed on Tuesday, July 2, 2024, in the Paso Cena area (Pedernales, not far from the border with Anse-à-Pitres).

While denouncing the brutal assassination, on Tuesday, July 2, 2024, of the two Haitian nationals, the platform Support Group for Repatriates and Refugees (Garr) castigates “the inconsideration, the lack of humanity and the brutality, which characterize the actions of the migration in the Dominican Republic against Haitian migrants”.

She attributes the cause of death, on Thursday, July 4, 2024 in Dominican territory, of the migrant Saint Mira Millien to human rights violations, still perpetrated by Dominican migration agents.

“Putting a suffering migrant in prison without care is boundless cruelty. Worse, this systematic hunt against Haitian migrants, legal or not, is most often akin to an enterprise to extort them, who make the Dominican economy flourish.”

The Garr platform asks Dominican migration agents to stop considering “Haitians present in Dominican territory” as “poultry.” [emb rc apr 09/07/2024 15:30]
