Argentina secured their place in the Copa America final by beating Canada 2-0 in the first semi-final, which was held in the United States at the MetLife Stadium. Despite a lackluster performance, the Argentinians showed realism to overcome a crafty opponent and move closer to a 16th continental title.

The match started with a slight Argentinian dominance, but it was Canada who looked the most threatening in the opening minutes. However, the first clear-cut opportunity came from Argentina in the 22nd minute of play. A precise clearance from Rodrigo De Paul found Julián Álvarez, who made a perfect control to beat the Canadian defender and send the ball into the net, passing between the legs of goalkeeper Maxime Crépeau.

Despite the opening goal, Canada did not give up and continued to cause problems for the Argentine defense. However, the defending champions showed great offensive efficiency. In the 51st minute, Enzo Fernández tried his luck from distance, and Lionel Messi, opportunist, deflected the shot to deceive the Canadian goalkeeper and double the lead for his team.

The Canadians tried everything to reduce the gap, but their lack of precision in front of goal cost them dearly. The well-organized Argentine defense was able to contain the Canadian attacks until the final whistle.

With this 2-0 victory, Argentina qualifies for the Copa America final and keeps hopes of achieving a historic double by winning a 16th title. Lionel Scaloni’s protégés now wait to know their opponent, who will be either Colombia or Uruguay, for this long-awaited final.

  • Argentina could become the most successful team in Copa America history if they win, overtaking Uruguay with whom they are currently tied on 15 titles.
  • Canada’s performance in this competition remains remarkable. The Canadians showed exemplary fighting spirit and determination throughout the tournament, leaving a positive impression for the future of their national team.

With this victory, Argentina now prepares to face its next challenge in the final and hopes to add another title to its already impressive list of achievements.
