The decision, adopted on 9 August 2012 to prohibit the importation, marketing, distribution and use of tableware made of expanded polystyrene or styrofoam, was renewed on Wednesday, July 10, 2013, by a new ministerial decree.

The ministerial decree of July 2013 prohibits the production, marketing, importation, distribution and use of polyethylene bags and all other objects made from expanded polystyrene.

The ban on products made of polyethylene (one of the thermoplastic resins) or expanded polystyrene has not, so far, prevented their circulation, their purchases and sales wholesale and retail in Haiti, particularly in the metropolitan area of the capital, Port-au-Prince.
