Paul Kagame, Rwanda’s president for the past 24 years, has been re-elected for a fourth term with 99.18% of the vote. Provisional results were announced on 18 July 2024 by the National Electoral Commission (NEC). NEC Chairperson Oda Gasinzigwa said: “His Excellency Paul Kagame scored 99.18%.”
In the presidential and legislative elections of July 15, Kagame faced Frank Habineza, who obtained 0.50% of the vote, and Philippe Mpayimana, with 0.32%. These results show once again the overwhelming dominance of Paul Kagame on the Rwandan political scene.
