The United States through USAID will provide a donation of 60 million dollars to Haiti

On an official visit to Haiti, the United States Ambassador to the United Nations, Linda Thomas-Greenfield, during a press briefing this Monday, July 22, 2024 at the diplomatic lounge of Toussaint Louverture International Airport in the presence of the United States Ambassador, Dennis Bruce Hankins, and Brian Nichols, Assistant Secretary for Western Hemisphere Affairs, announced that the United States will provide Haiti with a donation of $60 million through USAID for humanitarian assistance and support to the Haitian people, in order to alleviate the suffering caused by gang violence and political instability.

“I am proud to announce that the United States, through USAID, will provide an additional $60 million in humanitarian assistance and support to the Haitian people to alleviate the suffering caused by gang violence and political instability.”said Linda Thomas-Greenfield.

Regarding the Multinational Security Support Mission in Haiti, Linda Thomas-Greenfield also announced the provision of armored vehicles to support the mobility of the multinational force in the fight against gang violence, particularly in the metropolitan region of Port-au-Prince.

She took this opportunity to call on the international community to support Haiti in this process, emphasizing the resilience of the Haitian people. She cited as an example the artist Mikaben, of late memory, who never failed to show his love and courage for Haiti despite the difficult conditions.

Although she did not detail her meeting schedule, according to information available to Juno7, Linda Thomas-Greenfield met separately at the Villa d’Accueil with members of the Presidential Transitional Council, Prime Minister Garry Conille and Foreign Minister Dominique Dupuy.

“I had the pleasure of meeting with Haiti’s Transitional Presidential Council (TPC). Our commitment to Haiti includes supporting governance reforms, reducing crime, and protecting human rights.”

“I met with Prime Minister Garry Conille to discuss the ongoing security and humanitarian needs in Haiti as the multinational security support mission progresses. Prime Minister Conille made clear his overarching goal for his term: improving the lives of the Haitian people.”

Linda Thomas-Greenfield also visited the Kenyan base before her press briefing in the company of the acting director general of the Haitian National PoliceRameau Normil. After this press briefing, Linda Thomas-Greenfield and her team took the plane again after spending a day in Haiti.
