Summer means sun, beach and… blistered feet ! These minor inconveniences, often caused by long walks, new or ill-fitting shoes, can ruin your vacation.

Many simple and effective solutions exist to overcome this inconvenience which can interrupt a hiking or cultural visits.

Preventing foot blisters

  • Choose comfortable, well-fitting shoes. Make sure your shoes are neither too tight nor too loose, and that they provide good support for your feet.
  • Wear socks made from natural fibers. Cotton or wool socks absorb sweat and reduce friction.
  • Avoid wearing new shoes for long periods of time. Break in your new shoes gradually by wearing them for short periods of time at first.
  • Apply anti-chafing cream to sensitive areas. Anti-chafing cream can help reduce chafing and prevent blisters from forming.
  • Powder your feet. Talcum powder can absorb sweat and reduce moisture between the toes, which can help prevent blisters.

Treating foot blisters

  • Never puncture a blister. Bursting a blister can lead to infection.
  • Cover the blister with a protective dressing. A hydrocolloid dressing is a good option because it allows the blister to heal while protecting it from friction.
  • Apply antibiotic ointment to the blister. This can help prevent infection.
  • Avoid wearing shoes that rub on the blister.
  • Wear wide, comfortable shoes until the blister has healed.
  • If the blister is painful, you can take over-the-counter pain medication.

By following these simple tips, you can prevent foot blisters and enjoy summer to the fullest!

Do not forget !

Prevention is always better than cure. Take steps to prevent blisters before they form. If you get a blister, treat it quickly and efficiently. With a little care and attentionyour feet will stay blister-free all summer long!
