Repeated friction in ill-fitting shoes, sun and heat : all the ingredients are there for these pockets of liquid to form on our feet. But don’t panic, there are solutions simple et effective for the cure and the avoid.

The first step is to identify the type of bulb:

Small closed bulb:

  • Don’t pierce it! This could make the situation worse and lead to infection.
  • Protect her simply with a “second skin” type dressing to relieve it from friction.
  • If possible, change your shoes to avoid rubbing it further.

Large size bulb:

  • If it is painful, it may be helpful to pierce it to drain the liquid and relieve the pressure.
  • Before we begin, wash your hands thoroughly with soap and water.
  • Sterilize a needle using a product disinfectant or by heating it strongly to the flame.
  • Drill delicately the edge of the bulb at one or two points, then gently squeeze to release the liquid.
  • Never remove dead skin which covers the blister: it plays a protective role against infections.

Disinfect the area with an antiseptic solution and apply a bandage. You can opt for a compress covered with a tape (to be changed regularly until completely healed) or a “second skin” bandage.

Additional tips to prevent blisters

  • Choose some shoes comfortable and well adjusted.
  • Avoid new shoes on long walks or hikes.
  • Wear socks made from natural fibers like cotton or wool to absorb perspiration and reduce friction.
  • Apply from anti-chafing cream on sensitive areas of your feet before going for a walk.
  • Powder your feet with talc to absorb moisture and reduce friction between the toes.
  • Inspect your feet regularly to detect signs of blisters and treat them quickly.

By following these simple tips, you should be able to take full advantage of summer without worrying about blisters on your feet.
