On the 11th day of the Greek Super League, AEK Athens dominated Asteras Tripolis 3-0 at the OAKA Stadium, thanks to a solid performance and goals from Haji Safi, Paolo Fernandes and Levi Garcia. This victory allows AEK to temporarily take the lead in the championship, pending the result of PAOK Salonika, which could affect the position of the Athenians.
The match, well controlled by the men of coach Matías Almeyda, saw AEK Athens open the scoring in the 9th minute thanks to Haji Safi, before Paolo Fernandes worsened the score in the 31st minute. Finally, Levi Garcia sealed the victory with a goal in the 58th minute, confirming AEK’s superiority throughout the match.
Haitian international Frantzdy Pierrot, although not a starter, came into play in the 70th minute, replacing Levi Garcia. Shortly after his entry, Pierrot thought he scored a superb goal in the 75th minute, but it was canceled by the VAR for offside. This action caused great emotion in the attacker’s ranks, but did not tarnish the team’s performance.
With this victory, AEK Athens therefore appears as a serious contender for the title while waiting to know the fate of PAOK in its own meeting. If the results remain in their favor, AEK could continue to move closer to the pinnacle of Greek football.
