The airline Air Caraïbes resumes its flights to Haiti after more than four months of suspension due to the attacks on Toussaint Louverture International Airport. As of Monday, July 1, an Airbus A330-300 from Paris landed on the airport tarmac early in the afternoon.
This resumption marks the reopening of the direct link between Haiti and France, with a weekly flight every Monday, and a short technical stopover in the Dominican Republic on the return journey.
This resumption comes after a series of security measures put in place around the airport following the events of last February. Several airlines had then suspended their flights to Haiti. Since then, Sunrise Airways and American Airlines have already restarted their operations, followed by Spirit Airlines and JetBlue in June.
However, some companies, such as Air Transat, have not yet announced the resumption of their activities, while flights to the Dominican Republic remain suspended by decision of the Dominican authorities.
