Replacing Dr. Garry Conille, citizen Alix Didier Fils-Aimé has since become, on Monday, November 11, 2024, the new Haitian Prime Minister. The second of the transition prefabricated by CARICOM in concert with Haitian political actors thirsty for power. In fact, Mr. Fils-Aimé is the third Head of Government of the era of interim governance post Jovenel Moïse and it is a fact that he will not be the last given his first steps which reassure no one. It looks like he’s venturing into uncharted territory.
THE HAITI FACTOR, November 14, 2024._Everything suggests that the new PM is minimizing the dimension of the crisis by vaguely promising the restoration of security and the holding of elections next year. The same promises that won Ariel Henry and Garry Conille. How does he hope to go about it?
Indeed, from the start, Alix Didier Fils-Aimé signed her failure as Head of Government. Unlike his predecessors, in the current context, the new Prime Minister will not be able to play with time. He will have to face the new Haitian reality without an observation round. Every minute will be counted for him, because the countdown has started from the day he was installed. Drum beating, he is welcomed by the gangs in the same way that they pushed former PM Ariel Henry to resign.
It is true that it is at the foot of the wall that we recognize the true mason. However, Mr. Fils-Aimé in his first speech showed to what extent he is a novice and that he will not be able to meet the challenges of the heavy legacy that awaits him.
Alix Didier Fils-Aimé, the prince in New York on the lands of Haiti
PM Alix Didier Fils-Aimé is aware that for several years, Haitians have been living under the yoke of gangs and do not know which way to turn. 80% of the Haitian capital is controlled by armed civilians as are the main roads connecting it to other departments. The Haitian population is in a state of asphyxiation. With each new version of the transition, there are new lost territories. Thousands of new displaced people. Hundreds of additional schools closed and new students deprived of the bread of education. The State is powerless and cannot regain its authority or even guarantee hope. The reality of 2021, after the assassination of President Jovenel Moise, is not that of 2024. The situation is deteriorating from year to year to the point that the Haitian economy is at half mast. On the humanitarian side, it is a catastrophe because, according to consistent reports from international organizations, households in Port-au-Prince are on the verge of famine. Less than one in two households eat normally in the capital.
Mr. Fils-Aimé, the nation is in agony and only demands something concrete. With what magic wand will you solve these long-standing problems in 2025?
A question which will remain unanswered for the moment while awaiting the application of Alix Didier Fils-Aimé’s burying its head policy.
From amateur to novice
Dr. Garry Conille during his time at the Prime Minister has no achievements to his credit while he constantly presented himself as the Haitian savior. He only succeeded in creating a slogan that was quickly adopted by the armed gangs: “kay pa kay, katye pa katye. » Former PM Garry Conille only worsened the Haitian crisis and was only driven by his mercantile and lure of power. By all means, he tried to seize power, to the great dismay of the Republic. He did his best to ensure that the force of circumstances would amputate one of the executive’s heads. Ultimately, he wanted to overthrow the Presidential Transitional Council (CPT) which was embroiled in a corruption affair. The election of the Republican candidate, Donald Trump comes like a hair in the soup. Without delay, the CPT nipped Garry Conille’s project in the bud by ousting it in defiance of the agreement of April 3, 2024 which gave birth to it. A masterstroke which will not be without consequences, because Alix Didier Fils-Aimé is not the man for the situation and his novice character will lead to a new turning point in the Haitian crisis. At the end of 2025, unable to facilitate the return to constitutional order, the CPT and its PM, Alix Didier Fils-Aimé, will see the doors of power closed, the keys of which will find themselves in the hands of the international community.
