Caribbean leaders said Wednesday that Haitian Prime Minister Ariel Henry has agreed to hold general elections by mid-2025, as the international community struggles to raise money to finance a foreign armed force intended to combat gang violence in the country.
Members of the regional trading bloc Caricom issued a statement following a four-day summit in Guyana, saying Mr Henry recognized the need to hold elections and work with opposition and constituency groups. civil society to achieve this objective.

An assessment team will be created by the United States, Canada and the United Nations to help Haiti prepare for the elections.
A spokesman for Mr. Henry’s office declined to comment. Mr. Henry was on his way to Kenya after leaving Guyana, according to authorities.
