Armed gangs attack Cabaret police station

The Cabaret police station was attacked this Tuesday, August 13, by armed gangs.

While the Executive has declared a state of security emergency in areas controlled by armed gangs in the West and Artibonite departments, this does not prevent the criminals from continuing their acts against the Haitian population.

This Tuesday, August 13, 2024, armed individuals attacked the Cabaret police station. According to a citizen of this town contacted by Juno7, the thugs demolished a good part of the police station. “Using hammers, the bandits demolished the walls of the fence and the rooms. Finally, we are delivered into the hands of the gangs,” he laments.

Still according to this citizen who wanted to remain anonymous, the day before this attack, the armed gangs killed several citizens, including an entrepreneur known as Philoma Lebrun, the latter was killed in the Teleco area. “The criminals destroyed the dream of Cabaret,” he said.

Faced with this growing situation of insecurity, citizens are calling on the authorities to assume their responsibilities so that activities can resume across the country.

Faced with this situation, the Haitian National Police (PNH) through a note, informs that the building of the Cabaret Police Station was under the control of armed gangs for more than 5 months, contrary to information suggesting that the criminals recently occupied the Police Station during clashes with the police.

“Not occupied by police officers, the Cabaret Police Station had already been attacked and recently partially burned down by armed gangs,” underlines the PNH in its note which specifies that as part of the actions implemented by the Acting Director General, Mr. Rameau Normil, the police are engaged in operations aimed at recovering all areas occupied by armed men, including the commune of Cabaret.

As a result, on Tuesday, August 13, 2024, several agents of the Departmental Intervention Operation Brigade (BODY) are deployed in the Arcahaie district in order to thwart the bandits’ plan. The police institution reiterates its commitment to continue tracking down armed gangs, while counting on the frank collaboration of members of the population, through the Marriage Police Population.
