During the show Le Rendez-vous hosted by Volcy Assad, on Friday, August 9, 2024, Rosny Cadet, vice-president of the political party Alliance for a Society without Exclusion (ASE), expressed his party’s firm position regarding the BNC affair. Faced with this scandal, the ASE is threatening not to participate in the next elections if the affair is not fully elucidated.
The BNC affair continues to provoke strong and indignant reactions within the Haitian political class. The scandal, which involves presidential advisers Louis Gérald Gilles, Emmanuel Vertilaire and Smith Augustin, continues to make headlines. After the concerned reactions of the Montana coalition and the January 30 collective, it is now the turn of the party of former deputy Cholzer Chancy to express its concern.
“This is an extremely serious situation, in every sense of the word,” said Rosny Cadet, vice president of ASE, without mincing words. He considers it particularly alarming that a commercial bank president could make such accusations, but he considers it equally serious that presidential advisers are involved in what amounts to a “ransom demand” against a senior banking official.
Rosny Cadet insists on the imperative need to shed full light on this case. “We do not speculate on the veracity of the accusations, but we demand that the truth comes to light,” hammered Mr. Cadet, believing that such an approach is essential to restore the confidence of political actors.
“If the light is not shed, we will not be able to trust any of the people currently in charge of the country,” said the ASE vice-president, stressing that “without this transparency, no elected official from the next elections will be able to inspire confidence.”
Rosny Cadet also believes that the Transitional Presidential Council and the advisers in question should not wait for demonstrations to break out before committing to shedding light on this affair. “We are not accusing anyone, we are simply demanding that the whole truth be revealed,” he reiterated.
The scandal surrounding the National Credit Bank requires, according to Rosny Cadet, to reconsider all recent actions undertaken in the country, including the appointments of ministers, general directors, and even the composition of the next Provisional Electoral Council. “We cannot ignore the arrangements that may have been concluded behind the scenes,” he declared bluntly.
This situation seriously compromises the holding of the next elections, if we are to believe the words of Rosny Cadet. The ASE is ready to withdraw from the electoral race if the BNC affair is not clarified. “If the light is not shed, we could well be forced not to move forward with those who are currently in power, and not to participate in the elections,” he warned, while calling on the authorities to establish a climate of trust.
According to reliable sources, the Anti-Corruption Unit (ULCC) has summoned the driver of President-Advisor Louis Gérald Gilles to be heard as part of the investigation into the 100 million gourdes of the BNC. According to the statements of Raoul Pascal Pierre-Louis to the ULCC, Gilles would have sent his driver, known as Junior, to his residence in a pick-up, with a bag intended to collect the 100 million gourdes required for his continued employment.
