Torrential rains that fell on the city of Cap-Haïtien caused flooding in several neighborhoods, including the Blue Hills and caused a landslide in the locality of Baryè Boutèy leading the death of at least 11 residents.

According to the interim executive agent, Yvrose Pierre, a house collapsed and hit two houses in its path, causing the death of citizens in Baryè boutèy.

Agents from the Civil Protection Directorate were dispatched to the scene of the tragedy, said Pierre who spoke on Radio Ginen, deploring the tragedy.

Thursday evening, people were working around the clock searching for survivors. Thus, “four dead bodies were recovered” revealed a resident of Cap-Haïtien to our editorial staff.

For several days, heavy stormy rains have poured into Haiti due to an altitude trough which influences the humidity and the air mass over the Greater Antilles.

A flood warning has been issued by the Haitian authorities urging the population to exercise caution.
