BINUH calls for an end to sexual violence against girls and women in Haiti

On the occasion of the International Day for the Elimination of Sexual Violence in Conflict, celebrated this June 19, the United Nations Integrated Office in Haiti renewed its call for action to prevent and eradicate sexual violence, which disproportionately affects women and girls in the country.
“In recent years, reports of sex crimes in Haiti show a persistent upward trend in these violent acts against women and girls. These actions, sometimes used as weapons of control, leave physical and emotional scars persistent effects not only on survivors but also on Haitian communities as a whole. », Indicates a press release from BINUH.
According to the United Nations entity in Haiti, this June 19 is an opportunity to highlight the urgent need for concerted action on the part of all in order to provide adequate support to victims and to put all the mechanisms in place for a safe, inclusive and protective environment, where every woman and girl can live without fear of sexual violence.
“On this crucial International Day, we come together to express our deep support and solidarity to Haitian women, who face extreme challenges in the current context of conflict and instability. “, she said. “Together we can make a difference.
