The activities of the Varreux oil terminal and the Caribbean Port Services (CPS) port are blocked by armed criminal groups, reports the newspaper Le Nouvelliste on Monday April 22, 2024.

According to information collected by the aforementioned media, the access routes to these strategic sites are blocked, leading to the isolation of localities such as the “Gonaïves station”, Chancerelles and La Saline. This situation compromises the delivery capacity of the Varreux oil terminal, with carriers finding themselves unable to reach their destination.

A source close to the Varreux oil terminal told Le Nouvelliste that “The bandits were not able to enter the terminal […]. They took control of 10 trucks that had already left the terminal to use them as a roadblock.”

This same source clarified that the terminal is not under the control of criminal groups.

“We have security control of the Varreux terminal, Wineco oil storage, TGV propane storage, TVB bulk and container port as well as all of Varreux’s infrastructure and facilities.”

Furthermore, another source close to the CPS port terminal testified to the Rue du Center newspaper about the blockage situation, emphasizing that no container ship has been received since March 5, 2024.

” We are blocked. We don’t have access to CPS,” he said.
