The fiction “Blue and Company”, the story of a 12-year-old girl who has the gift of seeing imaginary creatures, takes the lead at the North American box office for its first weekend in theaters, the firm said on Sunday specialized in Exhibitor Relations.

Distributed by the American giant Paramount, the story of Bea and her neighbor with the improbable power to see and speak with various creatures, from a giant candy to a soap bubble, collected 35 million dollars between Friday and Sunday.

“It’s a good start for a film that is both live action and animated, with an above-average score for this genre,” said David Gross of Franchise Entertainment Research.

The creatures in the film are born from the imagination of children who forget them as they grow up. The duo’s quest is to reconnect each child with their imaginary friend.

Another fiction, “Planet of the Apes: The New Kingdom”, the latest installment in the ape saga, is hot on the heels of “Blue and Company” with 26 million dollars in revenue.

The story of “New Kingdom” takes place three centuries after the previous part, “Supremacy”, in a world now totally controlled by primates, while humans reduced to a wild state survive on the fringes of civilization.

The horror film “The Intruders” ranks third, with 12 million revenues. The film tells the story of a young couple who are terrorized by masked strangers while they are stranded in a cabin in a small, creepy town.

At the foot of the podium, a more glamorous duo. “The Fall Guy”, which features Ryan Gosling as a stuntman working on a film directed by his ex-girlfriend, played by Emily Blunt, collects 8.5 million.

“Challengers”, a tennis-based romance starring 27-year-old American actress and singer Zendaya, took fifth place with $2.9 million.

Here is the rest of the top 10:

6. “Back to Black” (2.8 millions de dollars)

7. “Cards of Evil” ($2 million)

8. “Godzilla x Kong: The New Kingdom” ($1.7 million)

9. “The Blue Angels” (1.3 million de dollars)

10. “Unsung Hero” (1 million de dollars)
