Darwin Nunez and Uruguayan players jump into the stands after a Copa America defeat

Darwin Núñez and a dozen of his Uruguay teammates stormed into the stands as fans brawled at Bank of America Stadium following a 1-0 loss to Colombia in the Copa América semifinals on Wednesday night in Charlotte, North Carolina.

After a physical and contentious match, a fight broke out behind the Uruguay bench after Mexican referee Cesar Ramos blew the final whistle.

Of the 70,644 spectators, about 90% supported Colombia, but a small group of Uruguayan fans fought with Colombian supporters, and drinks were thrown.

Núñez and his teammates then ran up a flight of stairs to join the crowd. Video shows Núñez punching a fan wearing Colombian team colors.

It took police more than 10 minutes to restore order. The announcer asked fans to leave the stadium, but several supporters remained.

Around 100 Uruguayan fans and federation staff remained on the pitch for more than 20 minutes after the match, while Colombian fans left the stadium to celebrate.
