Haitian authorities have lifted the orange alert placed on the southern region of Haiti affected by showers and gusts of wind caused by Hurricane Beryl which caused “minor damage” in the far south during its passage over the Caribbean Sea on Wednesday.

“The orange alert has been lifted,” announced the Haitian civil protection on its X account (formerly Twitter).

However, it is still possible that thunderstorms will continue to fall on Haiti, particularly in the departments of Grand-Anse, Nippes, Sud and Sud-Est.

Civil protection is taking the opportunity to ask citizens to remain vigilant.

“Let us remain vigilant and follow the instructions of the authorities,” she recommended, stressing that Beryl caused “minor damage to housing” during its passage along the southern coast of Haiti.

“Coastal flooding has been reported in several municipalities, particularly in the South-East where the waters have risen up to 100 metres inland in places,” the authorities.

“Damage has been recorded in the agricultural sector in Grand Boucan and in the South,” added the authorities, asking citizens to remain vigilant and follow safety instructions.

In addition, the activation of the National Emergency Operations Center has been strengthened to respond to the needs of the population after the passage of Hurricane Beryl, off the southern coast of Haiti, inform the authorities.
