For several days, armed bandits have burst into the premises of the Haitian daily “Le Nouvelliste” located on rue du Center, in Port-au-Prince. The individuals vandalized the equipment and took away the furniture and raw materials necessary for printing the newspaper, according to confirmations from the general management of the institution.

THE HAITI FACTOR, April 26, 2024._125 years old, the newspaper “Le Nouvelliste” is not spared from the armed violence instigated by armed bandits in Port-au-Prince, the capital of Haiti.

Indeed, the premises of the oldest daily newspaper in the country, located on rue du Centre, have been stormed for several days by armed gangs, informed the General Management.

During their incursion into the newspaper’s premises, they vandalized equipment and took away furniture and raw materials necessary for printing the newspaper, the Officials wrote.

After the gang members burst into the newspaper’s premises, the management of the daily newspaper “Le Nouvelliste” says it can only rely on the justice and police authorities whose role is to protect the lives and property of citizens.

“After more than 125 years of existence of a newspaper known for its independence, Le Nouvelliste, always wanting to be a privileged witness to our social changes, will continue to provide information from its digital version,” writes the General Management.

Victim of the gangster demonstration, Le Nouvelliste says it thanks its journalists, its staff and its readers for their solidarity in these difficult times.

It should also be remembered that the premises of the “Presses Nationales d’Haïti” experienced the same fate at the hands of armed bandits on the evening of Thursday April 18 to Friday April 19, 2024, confirmed the Director General, Ronald Saint-Jean.
