Canada congratulates CPT for appointing new Prime Minister to lead transition

The Canadian government has congratulated the Transitional Presidential Council for appointing a new prime minister to lead the transition.

Through a statement made on behalf of the Canadian government dated Thursday, May 30, 2024, the Minister of Foreign Affairs of Canada, Mélanie Joly congratulates the Presidential Transition Council (CPT) for having appointed a new prime minister to lead the transition in Haiti and for having made progress towards achieving this important transition of power.

She encourages the Prime Minister, Doctor Garry Conille and the members of the Presidential Transitional Council to put in place, as quickly as possible, a new government that prioritizes the well-being of the Haitian people.

“We look forward to the Prime Minister Conille and the CPT take the necessary measures to restore democratic institutions, organize free and fair elections, promote good governance and collaborate with the international community to restore national security and provide the necessary assistance to the Haitian people, who have suffered so much” she underlined.

She recalls that the ties between Canada and Haiti are strong, while specifying that as Haiti continues its path towards the reestablishment of democracy, it will be able to continue to count on Canada to provide assistance in security matters. , development aid and humanitarian aid to the Haitian people.
