Caricom sends the names constituting the Presidential Council to Doctor Ariel Henry

The names of the Presidential advisers were sent by Caricom to Prime Minister Ariel Henry.

For several months, Caricom has been openly committed to finding a solution to the Haitian crisis. In 2023, several meetings were held between Haitian actors but no solution could be found. After the announcement of the resignation of Ariel Henry’s government after days of turbulence on the night of Monday March 11, 2024, the actors finally reached an agreement on the establishment of a Presidential Council.

Through a letter bearing the signature of the President of the Caribbean Community, Mohamed Irfaan Ali, also President of Guyana, the names of the personalities forming the Presidential Council were sent to Prime Minister Ariel Henry.

It is emphasized in the letter that this Council made up of Edgard Leblanc Fils, Louis Gérald Gilles, Smith Augustin, Leslie Voltaire, Fritz Alphonse Jean, Emmanuel Vertilaire, Laurent Saint Cyr, Frinel Joseph and Régine Abraham should facilitate a fluid and peaceful transmission of power. and continuity of governance, paving the way for free and fair elections as soon as possible.

Caricom underlines in its letter that it is the responsibility of Dr. Ariel Henry to complete the necessary procedural formalities to facilitate the immediate establishment of the Presidential Transitional Council leading to the appointment of an interim Prime Minister.

“This is a crucial and urgent first step to enable the Presidential Transitional Council to begin functioning and launch the accelerated deployment of the Multinational Security Support Mission authorized by Security Council resolution 2699/2023 of the United Nations” the letter reads.

However, Caricom announces that it will return to the doctor Ariel Henryonce the name of the interim Prime Minister has been known.
