Since the beginning of last April, the police officers assigned to the Saint-Charles Sub-Police Station have deserted the building following an attack by armed bandits who targeted the building. On the night of Monday, July 1, criminals from “Viv ansanm” set fire to part of the building.
Less than 24 hours after demolishing part of the Gressier Police Station, criminals grouped within “Viv ansanm” attacked and set fire to the Saint-Charles Sub-Police Station established in Carrefour before setting it on fire.
According to witnesses, after threats were made against the police presence at Carrefour, the bandits took action on Monday night. Viral images on social networks show the facades of the building blackened by flames.
The restoration of the symbols of the state destroyed by the gangs of “Viv ansanm” will remain a painful task for the new transition team. While it is true that the gangs remain active in their quest to destroy the installations of the Haitian National Police (PNH), nothing augurs optimism about the future of other infrastructures hitherto sheltered from the whims of the armed bandits.
Few initiatives have been taken by the authorities to consolidate state assets, as evidenced by the current situation of several police stations or sub-stations deserted by police officers, observers deplore.
