Supporters of Me Ronald Richemond still cannot digest his dismissal as head of the Les Cayes Prosecutor’s Office. Several weeks after his dismissal by the Minister of Justice and Public Security, Me Carlos Hercule, his allies continue to demand his return to his post, while several complaints have been filed against him for charges such as: criminal association, spoliation and murder to the detriment of journalist Garry Tess, among others.
THE HAITI FACTOR, July 11, 2024._The population of Les Cayes, capital of the South Department of Haiti, remains divided after the decision of the Minister of Justice and Public Security, Mr. Carlos Hercule, to dismiss Mr. Ronald Richemond from his post as Government Commissioner at the Court of First Instance of this jurisdiction.
Me Ronald Richemond was ousted from his post by the incumbent of the Ministry of Justice (MJSP) after officials received several complaints filed against him, including those relating to his alleged involvement in the assassination of political commentator, Garry Tess, former host of the Gran Lakou show on Radio Lebon FM.
In the letter of dismissal sent to him, Mr Carlos specified that the former Commissioner had been sidelined in order to facilitate ongoing investigations.
In response, the vast majority of the population of Les Cayes welcomed the decision taken by the Haitian judicial authorities to dismiss the head of the Public Prosecutor’s Office of the jurisdiction of Les Cayes from his post.
As proof, a few days later, several hundred Cayen citizens demonstrated in the streets of the country’s third largest city to demand the arrest and subsequent imprisonment of the former Commissioner, Me Ronald Richemond, for criminal association, dispossession, assassination, violation of human rights and illegal arrests of political activists of the Cayes opposition.
In response, supporters of the former Commissioner organized a press conference on Thursday, July 11, 2024, in the city of Les Cayes to ask the Minister of Justice and Public Security to reverse his decision in order to allow Me Ronald Richemond to sign his return to head of the prosecution.
The latter put forward the good behavior of the former head of criminal prosecution to justify their request.
It should also be noted that recently, relatives of the former Commissioner of the Government of Les Cayes, Mr. Ronald Richemond, had locked the barriers of the Public Prosecutor’s Office to prevent his successor, Mr. James Jean-Louis, and other employees of the judicial institution from having access to their offices.
