Real Madrid FC qualify for the Champions League semi-finals. The Madrilenians validated their ticket by dismissing (3-4) the Citizens on penalties. And this, after a draw (1-1) during the return match played on Wednesday April 17, 2024, at the Éthiad Stadium.
THE HAITI FACTOR, April 17, 2024._Real Madrid FC qualified at the Ethiad Stadium this Wednesday for the semi-finals of the Champions League.
To achieve this, the Madrid club eliminated (3-4) Manchester Cy on penalties, while the two teams drew (1-1) after 90 minutes of play.
Unlike the first leg, it was Real Madrid who opened the scoring in the 12th minute of play through Rodrygo Goes. To score the goal, the young Brazilian player took a ball that was poorly pushed away by Manchester City goalkeeper Ederson Moraes.
The Citizens came back to the score in the 76th minute of play, through Kevin De Bruyne, following an action orchestrated by Jérémy Doku. The Belgian midfielder catapulted the ball into the back of Lunin’s net after Antonio Rüdiger’s missed clearance.
In the end, the match ended in a one-goal draw (1-1). A result which pushed the two clubs to play overtime. After 120 minutes, nothing had changed on the scoreboard despite the great domination of Manchester City.
To decide between them, Madrilenians and Citizens met on penalties. Exercise won (3-4) by Real Madrid who took their revenge on Manchester City who had dismissed them last season with a setback (4-0) at the Ethiad Stadium.
In the semi-final, Real Madrid will face Bayern Munich FC who knocked out Arsenal FC with their victory (1-0).
