The Director General of the Haitian National Police (PNH), Normil Rameau, announced on Saturday, June 29, 2024, the appointment of two new officials to the West Departmental Directorate. Divisional Commissioner Julbert Conseillant now takes the reins of DDO1, replacing Yvon Cantave, who is transferred to the office of the Acting Director General of the PNH.
For his part, Divisional Commissioner Xavier Séide was installed as DDO2, succeeding Roger Lamartinière, who was also transferred to the office of the Acting Director General of the PNH. These changes are part of the renewal of command under the leadership of Rameau Normil and were carried out in the presence of many police officers of all ranks.
The West Departmental Directorate, one of the most populated in Haiti, is subdivided into two entities, DDO1 and DDO2, to optimize the coordination of police stations and sub-police stations. While DDO1 covers areas such as Port-au-Prince, Pétion-Ville and Carrefour, DDO2 takes care of the sectors of Delmas, Croix-des-Bouquets and Cité Soleil.
This reorganization comes in a context of increased violence since 2021, where many police stations have fallen under the control of armed gangs, exacerbating security challenges. This weekend, joint patrols between the GIPNH and Kenyan police officers were also conducted in the metropolitan area to strengthen security.
