The Platform of Haitian Human Rights Organizations (POHDH) declined the invitation of President-Counselor Frinel Joseph to participate yesterday in a meeting aimed at resolving differences within the human rights sector to reach a consensus on the representative to integrate the Provisional Electoral Council (CEP). The platform questions the authority of the President-Counselor, who is an observer, to initiate such an approach.
On August 5, the POHDH received an invitation from President-Counsellor Frinel Joseph to participate in a meeting to take into account the various disputes relating to the choice of the representative to sit on the CEP.
However, in the letter, the President-Advisor indicates that “structures” of the sector are invited to take part in this meeting.
In its response letter, the POHDH declared itself ready to participate in meetings “only with the OCNH, in order to inform the CPT of the progress of the process that it is responsible for conducting jointly with the OCNH”.
However, the POHDH questions the fact that “a President-Counsellor, as an observer, is authorized to make such commitments on behalf of the CPT”. “Could this be an administrative anomaly?” asks the POHDH.
“Given these considerations, the POHDH finds itself unable to respond favourably to your invitation, but it remains open to any future discussion,” she continued.
Some sectors remain divided over the choice of representatives to join the CEP. Faced with this situation, the advisors of the Presidential Transitional Council are actively involved. Since Saturday, incessant meetings have been held at the Villa d’Accueil for this purpose.
