The National Telecommunications Council (Conatel) has shut down two FM radio stations in Cap-Haïtien, in response to reported interference with the control tower of the city’s international airport. The move is aimed at ensuring the smooth operation of aeronautical connections.
The stations affected are Radio Oxygène FM, broadcasting on 90.9 MHz, and the pirate station Lestomak FM, broadcasting on the frequency 98.7 MHz. Following these closures, the airport control tower is now operating normally, according to the report of the Conatel technical team.
The decision to close these stations was taken after a complaint from the National Office of Civil Aviation (Ofnac), which had reported radio interference disrupting aeronautical communications. An in-depth technical analysis, carried out by a Conatel team from July 26 to 30, 2024, identified these two sources of disruption.
In addition, Conatel also required corrections to the installations of the CH Amen station, broadcasting on the 90.7 MHz frequency in Cap-Haïtien, in order to improve the quality of its signals. These measures aim to ensure better coordination of air services and avoid future interference.
