Colombian Football Federation President Ramon Jesurun was arrested in Miami in connection with an incident during the Copa America final on Sunday, according to a police report released Monday.
A Miami-Dade County police record shows Jesurun was arrested Sunday night at Hard Rock Stadium for “assault on an officer/employee.”
There was chaos as fans stormed the gates of the NFL’s Miami Dolphins stadium, with people being pushed to the ground and others trying to squeeze into the stadium through massive air conditioning ducts, delaying the start of the game by 80 minutes.
Argentina beat Colombia 1-0 in the Copa America final thanks to an extra-time goal from Lautaro Martinez.
Jesurun, 71, was not allowed to enter the field with his son and other family members after the match for the awards ceremony, according to Colombian newspaper El Tiempo.
Jesurun’s son confronted a security guard who refused them entry.
Jesurun, vice-president of regional governing body CONMEBOL, also took part in the argument before police intervened, the newspaper said.
