In a press release made public this Thursday, July 18, 2024, the General Directorate of the Executive Body of the National Telecommunications Council (CONATEL) informed of the granting of a five-year license to NATCOM for the provision of IPTV service throughout the national territory.
NATCOM is a cellular telephone provider operating in the market for 14 years. This license already provided for in its concession dated July 22, 2020, will allow Natcom, according to Conatel, to expand its service offering by introducing Internet Protocol Television (IPTV) services, thus offering an enriched and diversified digital television experience to the Haitian population.
CONATEL says it is “convinced that this approach will contribute to improving access to quality television content and promoting technological innovation in the telecommunications sector.”
The National Telecommunications Council wants to support operators in their efforts to contribute to the development of the telecommunications sector.
IPTV, which stands for Internet Protocol Television, uses internet technology to distribute television programs on demand. Unlike traditional live television, IPTV works via internet boxes. In short, IPTV transmits shows and movies using a standard internet connection. This system is widely adopted by major video-on-demand companies, such as Netflix, Amazon Prime Video or RMC Sport.
The main advantage of IPTV is that it allows viewers to select the content that interests them and watch it at any time without the need for a recorder. This system also offers great comfort of use by allowing you to pause, record or rewind a program. In addition, IPTV is used to watch catch-up programs. Finally, it is also possible to watch live programs via IPTV, just like with traditional television.
